Driving from Grafton to Bennington, I sometimes bypass Route 22 and take Babcock Lake Road, followed by Fox Hollow Road, to Route 7 -- if for no other reason than to gaze at the gorgeous Smith Farm on Fox Hollow Road in the Town of Hoosick just over the northeast corner of the Town of Grafton.

|Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)|
Wildflowers bloom about one month later on the lake, at 1,650 ft. above sea level, than in the lowlands like Troy. I spotted this Coltsfoot while walking around the lake on Saturday. It's usually the first wildflower to appear in the spring. Its name refers to its basal-shaped leaf's resemblance to a colt's foot.
